Messenger for Android is a sample application shipped with Restcomm Client SDK for Android (check https://github.com/Mobicents/restcomm-android-sdk) which allows video/audio webrtc calls and instant messages using the Restcomm platform. This tutorial will show you how to setup Messenger to work with our Demo instance at Amazon EC2.

Prerequisites

Restcomm Messenger for Android. You can download the latest .apk from Test Fairy: https://community.testfairy.com/join/zr937dgQ

Restcomm Android Messenger Setup

  • Open Messenger and go to settings (Android overflow menu on the top right of the main screen):
    main-screen
  • Edit ‘User’ setting and type the name of the user you want Messenger to use (this is whichever SIP ‘client’ is provisioned in Restcomm, for example ‘bob’ or ‘alice’):
    user-setting
  • Edit ‘Password setting and set which ever password was provisioned for the SIP client in your instance, for example ‘1234’:
    pass-settings
  • Edit ‘Proxy IP’ and use the IP for Restomm instance, for example 23.23.228.238 which is our Demo instance:
    proxy-setting
  • Edit the ‘Proxy port’ if your instance is using a different port than 5080:
    proxy-port-setting

And that’s it, return to main screen, change the sip destination to a valid number at Restcomm installation and hit Video or Audio call (for example to reach the conference Restcomm app you would have to change it to: sip:1311@<restcomm instance ip or domain>:<restcomm instance port>).
